There have been some changes to First Aid provisions requirements in June this year, with the introductory period finishing at the end of December this year. I have a meeting planned with a first aid equipment provider who wishes to come in to price us on re-stocking our first aid boxes to be in-line with the new requirements (adding more burn gels, and changing quantity requirements of bandages, etc etc.) As far as I am aware, the HSE wants organisations to stock First Aid provisions which are relevant to the risks found in an assessment of first aid requirements, and as such is not forcing any workplace to stock a specific list of first aid equipment. BUT I'm told that first aid boxes need to have a specific minimum amount of various equipment regardless of nature of work. I have updated our first aid requirements last week in preparation for this meeting, where do I stand if he recommends me something in line with the changes to requirements which we don't actually need? We would never cut costs on issues like this, but at the same time we don't want changes to regulations to be used to push us into buying excess stock which is not relevant to the nature of our work and the risks associated with it. Any thoughts? Thanks.

This was discussed last week. The new standard is for suppliers of kits not a requirement for users. As you said you should put into the First Aid kit what you need. There is a minimum suggested set of items, which is available for the HSE ( see http://www.hse.gov.uk/fi...d/faqs.htm#first-aid-box) but you don’t need to completely upgrade your kit just because of this new standard.
