Just thought I would share my recent Peer Review Interview experience with you I was like most, really nervous, I arrived early and went and had the mandatory cup of coffee at the local McDonalds, whilst I sat there I decided that, what the interviewers was going to see was me - today and how I conduct myself and my knowledge as it was on that day and if that didn't fulfill the criteria for Chartered status then the outcome wouldn't be a bad interview but areas I needed to develop to attain Chartered status When I arrive, the interviewers put me at ease, they listened to my presentation then we had what felt like a discussion around certain topics rather than question & answers. I actually enjoyed the interview as it was a chance to reflect on what I did actually know So my advise to anyone who has a PRI coming up is to talk about who you are, and what you do and if there are areas you are not too familiar with then these are your areas for development going forward The interviewers are not there to trip you up but to get you to talk about yourself My letter from IOSH arrived in less that a week, and am please to say that I've been recommended for Chartered Membership

harri - Well done for having a constructive attitude to peer review interviews and also for sharing your thoughts and experience on this forum. As an aside for those preparing their written evidence which is copied in advance to interview panel members, it's worth making sure that you get the I in IOSH correct as Institution. It's rumoured that some panel members take a dim view of candidates who think IOSH is an institute! Though some people might argue that this is being pedantic, it could also be argued that not knowing IOSH's correct name reflects poor ability in observation and sloppy attention to detail. Therefore, it's somewhat galling to read from your response #5 to the separate forum topic "Designatory Letters", that some experienced IOSH members were prepared to argue their (mis)belief that IOSH is an institute.

Well done harri, I also sat my Peer Review recently and can only say how much the panel made you feel welcome. I was asked if I was aware of any changes in regulations (RIDDOR & Asbestos) and how it would affect me and the company I work for. All in all a pleasant experience and one where you can talk about yourself and not feel your egging your ego. Ps. I also got the letter within a week with a recommendation for Chartered Membership.

Well done to those who have proved their competence to receive Chartered status. Decimol, The panel is there to ask you questions about you, who you are and what your experience is. So if you are not an expert of that subject, no one is. The only other subject that you will be asked about is the IOSH Code, so make sure you read it and understand what it means, you don't have to know it off by heart just understand your responsibility under the code.

I've just returned from my Peer Review Interview and I can also confirm that my panel were very welcoming and did their best to make me feel at ease. I really don't know what the outcome will be, however, if I am unsuccesful on this attempt, the experience has certainly not put me off and I will definately re-apply. Good luck all
