Where can I find information regarding health & safety training. I am trying to establish whether I could do training for my company privately as long as it followed the acop for that subject I.E banksman for reversing vehicles, is it covered under the heading of "So far as is reasonably practicable" to do it yourself for your own staff for your own operating areas.

You need to be more specific, simply saying H&S training and then using banksmen as an example tend to suggest you are looking for some job or task specific types of training. Any training you provide should be given by someone with a proper understanding and ability to provide effective training in whatever topic that training is about. The so far as is practicable thing is not anything to do with training and I suggest it is dangerous to try and use that as a reason for providing training which may prove to be inadequate should it be tested in a court of law. You would be well advised to avoid giving any form of training which you are not competent to deliver, to do so could leave you open to both criminal and civil action against both yourself and your company.

agree with both Bob(s) comments...however so long as you can show 1. you have the competence to carry out the activity as an operator, which has been verified. 2. Have evidence of the correct instructional techniques course or other. 3. Evidence of ongoing assessment of instructional techniques/practice which has also been verified...and even then your company bears all the liability...apart from the S36 bits...
Not a good example but nearly there...guys wishing to teach confined space entry to their staff when they have never been in a confined space or on the entry/rescue course...

Slightly off thread but I would really like to get some external training for our Safety Representatives (non trade union) - we have 9 sites spread over 200 miles so 9 reps and a further 5 from various departments - to get them some formal accreditation and towards their training development/record. Any thoughts of a suitable course?, perhaps my best option might be to approach a few training providers and look at a bespoke course held at my location.
