We have an ammonia leak detection system within our ski slope facility, I'm looking for somebody to provide me with details as to how I can safely test the sensors to ensure they are working ok. We currently release a very small amount of ammonia under the detectors to test them. Obviously the guys are in full PPE with breathing apparatus on when this is done.
Is there any device on the market that allows you to perform this task differently?
Thanks in advance
Paul

Paul, it may be you have already asked this, but what does the supplier of the detectors say?

I would be wary of doing this yourself
can you prove competency if the ppe failed (last resort)
normally which ever engineer company provides your statutory testing can offer this service to you
their engineers will be trained to the latest ammonia regs and will have PPE training and a escape plan
you may have an automatic detection system built in which negates some forms of testing?
Without knowing any more this may well be a case where cost to achieve compliance is better than in-house
i.e. How many of us do our own legionaries testing?
