We provide mainly quality and health and safety training courses, including the IOSH Managing Safely to all types of industries. We have full EL PL and PI insurances. However one of our larger companies to whom we provide mainly the IOSH MS, is redefining its supplier framework and is asking for minimum PI insurance of £10million! According to our brokers (and we have shopped around) to provide this amount of cover will be around and additional £5,500 to £6,000 per year? Have any other training providers come up against this with natiional organisations, and if so how have you progressed? Cheers! Sally

Yes, its common in the construction industry to ask for either £5 or £10m PI insurance from consultants/training providers. I think a framework that stipulates this for a training only provider is abit overboard. I had to bite the bullet and go for more PI insurance only to find that I'm competing with others with as little as £500k PI and some with none at all (some working through umbrella companies)? Maybe you should speak to the client concerned and go through any issues they have and why they have taken this stance for everyone.

Is it that if a person is not trained properly then all else apart from proper management is probably a waste and poor training leads to claims hence such premiums are being asked for
