2 years ago my company was taken over, within 3 months we were moved from our base in Southampton to Feltham without consultation just ordered to do so. Does the travelling time apprx 3hrs per day contribute to my working day?

I'd suggest that a commute to and from your 'normal place of work' does not constitute part of your normal working day, no. I think that this would probably be more of a HR question though. Were you not TUPE'd across? What were the results of your TUPE consultation? Not that 'up' on TUPE personally, as it has never affected me, but friends and family have gone through it in the past. As I said though, probably more suited to a HR forum.

If your original contract is still valid and it states your base as Southampton and they choose to move your base which requires you to do extra miles from the original base to the new one then that should have been discussed as part of the relocation process - You have grounds for a grievance if they did not consult with you. They may have to pay you mileage as they have changed your base and or allocate travelling time as part of your day. This alll depends on your HR policies.
