Looking for feedback on two books related to the above training course:- A Study Book for the NEBOSH Certificate in Fire Safety and Risk Management: Essential Health and Safety Guide for Those with Management Responsibility in Fire Safety (NEBOSH Study Books) - RMS Publishing Introduction to Fire Safety Management: The handbook for students on NEBOSH and other fire safety courses - Andrew Furness and Martin Muckett Has anyone bought these books? I start the course next week and was wondering which of these books is best. Thanks

I have completed this course and other courses in fire safety and I have never heard of the books. I got hold of copy of the RRO and Part B Building regs. This gave me an understanding of the requirements and then the course content gave me the information I required to pass the course.

I bought the RMS book and then found that the course material provided by the Aviva Risk Management trainers was enough without having had to buy the book. There's really nothing more in the book than you should expect to receive as course material. Save your money!

I bought both books and cannot really recommend one over the other. The RMS book is not as well illustrated as the other, but certainly covers all the course material in depth. The "Introduction book" is better illustrated with photos and diagrams and assumes little or no knowledge of the subject: it is perhaps less detailed than the RMS book, but again covers all of the course material. If you afford it, (second hand?) I would recommend both. Good luck with the studies!

I agree with Murray, I did the course a couple of years ago with Phoenix and the course mateials provided ie the NEBOSH Fire Safety & Risk Management workbook is the best you'll get, no need to try and supplement it with expensive lesser books.

Having done a number of NEBOSH courses, including the Fire and Risk Managment one I would suggest that you wait and see what training materials your course provider will give you before spending money on additional workbooks. The training materials on the course should be sufficient to cover all the syllabus content. If you want to bolster your resource material then I would recommend you purchasing some of the Examiners Reports from the NEBOSH website for this certificate as they give you the past exam questions and the examiners expected content of the answer. Learning the syllabus is one thing but knowing how to apply it to a NEBOSH exam question is something else. The examiners reports aren't cheap at about £7 each but they are worth it as a revision tool. You could also talk to your fellow candiates and all buy a couple of different reports and then swap them to save some money. Good luck with the course!

I would definitely agree with Lisa regarding the examiners reports. I have completed a number of NEBOSH courses and I have always gone this route. I would however recommend the Andrew Furness book you have referred to. It is excellent in making things easy to understand and gives you a good under pinning knowledge of the subject remember, its not just about passing the course, its also being able to apply what you have learnt after these exams. The RMS books is more in-depth but, from my experience of using the book, a pain in the back side to find exactly what you are looking for. Hope that helps!

hi Jarsmith Thanks for the update - I agree, I'm looking for a book which will help me through the course and which I can also refer to in a practical sense when I start looking at Fire safety etc. Thanks to everyone for the info/comments
