Hello, I need to refer some of our staff for hav assessment by an occupational health nurse. Also I have one of our staff that I need to refer for a work fitness assessment. Anybody with experience in the selection process of a good occupational health provider? So far I seem to be struggling getting feed back re query with various providers. Bernie

Get hold of your local Association of Greater Manchester Authorities [AGMA] or similar group or your local IOSH group as somebody there can help you
This can be a very complicated area especially so as you are dealing with private medical information which will have managers pulling their hair out as they cannot get at that information in most cases with staff in some cases playing the game and service providers are very protective of info with most service providers being so so
If you go for a nurse lead service instead of a doctor lead service you should be paying less overall and unless you have experience of dealing with the medical profession you will find them [overall] very daunting as they [in my personal view] think that they know it all and have little regard [in my experience] for other professions but stick to your guns as they are contractors like any other contractor
The information gained from basic HAVS assessment that can be undertaken on site is poor so you would most likely have to go beyond the basic areas
NB: If your HAVS management system is not a good one you will need to ensure that it is and be prepared for staff who cannot use vibration equipment any more so you need to plan for that event

Whilst I cannot assist directly you may wish to use a provider who has signed up to or is accredited to the Royal College of Physicians Standards for Occ H providers. Info can be found via the following link. I gather the NHS won't now use providers who are not accredited or at least registered for accreditation. This may be a good start for finding competent advice. Hope this helps. http://www.rcplondon.ac.uk/projects/seqohs

Have a look at the Constructing Better Health website www.cbhscheme.com which is a national scheme for the management of occupational health in the construction industry and has a list of accredited OH providers. The HSE website also has guidance on the competency requirements for occupational health professionals see http://www.hse.gov.uk/co...thrisks/competencies.htm
