To become an NVQ assessor you would need what used to be the A1 (assessor qualification) not sure if this has been superseded - you would also be required to hold a qualification in H&S of at the level you would like to assess - perhaps you ought to go to an IOSH meeting and ask the local BEDA officer for more information?

No the A1 is the NVQ assessor qualification. I have it and also NEBOSH...does this mean i can assess at level 3 ?

As far as I am aware you will need the A1 qualification which allows you to assess, however you can assess whilst undertaking training as you will be assessed as an assessor whilst training. You will need a qualification in the area you will be assessing and you cannot assess candidates above your own level of qualification. I also believe you need to be employed as an assessor in order to obtain candidates.
One word of caution though, my wife is currently working as an assessor for local authority and also carries out private work as a sole trader for an assessing company, however she is going to give up this as the financial reward is not the best taking in to account the time, cost and travelling involved.

Hi The name has changed from the A1 Assessor. http://www.ocr.org.uk/qu...learn_dev/acwe_l3_award/To assess the H&S NVQ/QCF you will have to undertake unit 1 & 2. Whilst you are Assessing 2 candidates as part of your qualification another assessor has to be your countersigning assessor. This why its hard to get a foot on the ladder as its not really a retailable qualfication unless you want to spend a lot of money! Yes to assess NVQ/QCF L3 you would need the same qual or a NEBOSH Gen Cert as a minimum. If you work on funded NVQ/QCFs you will also need a PTLLS qual. (Dont ask me, but someone obviously thought it was a good idea and didn't know what they were talking about!) Good point about the rewards side of it, financially there is a better way of spending your time to earn more money. However, the meeting people, getting on site etc is very rewarding and interesting - opening you to some sites you may never had chance to get on. However, to bare in mind - you may have a L3 H&S qual but may not have the competence to assess, say on scaffold inspection - and if that is what your candidate is a - H&S Advisor for a Scaff company then you can come unstuck with the awarding body as well as the commercial side of the NVQ delivery. Your best best is to find a provider of the H&S NVQ/QCFs and see if they also have the accreditation to do the Assessors qual and see if they would be happy to use an associate. Regards Linda
