Similarities'diff between ISO 9001 and AS9100 (US based standard)

Hi folks,
I am investigating for my boss what the differences or similarities there are between the ISO 9001 quality standard and the US AS9100 standard.
WE have an american partner who is creating some HSE packs for the work, but he wasnt sure what system to utilise as they have the US based system, the main points of AS9100 are:
• Configuration management
• Design phase, design verification, validation and testing processes
• Reliability, maintainability and safety
• Approval and review of subcontractor performance
• Verification of purchased product
• Product identification throughout the product’s life cycle
• Product documentation
• Control of production process changes
• Control of production equipment, tools and numerical control machine programmes
• Control of work performed outside the supplier’s facilities
• Special processes
• Inspection and testing procedures
• Methods, resources and recording
• Corrective action
• Expansion of the internal audit requirements in ISO 9001:2000
• First article inspection
• Servicing, including collecting and analysing data, delivery, investigation and reporting and control of technical documentation
• Review of disposition of non conforming product
Are they similar enough that they can work together and be utilised by both parties or is there fiundamental differences, or laws that prevent them being used in either country.
Any advice here would be great.
Rick

It appears that AS9100 is the quality management standard specifically written for the aerospace industry--details at:-
http://www.isoqar.com/uk...S9100/AS-9100-About.aspx
It clarifies that the current version of AS9100 aligns the standard with ISO 9001:2008 and has EXTRA requirements regarding Regulatory Compliance and aerospace-sector specific requirements that you have listed.

Ah, that simplifies things then. Was worried they may have been incompatible.
Reading that link helps.
Thanks a lot :)

Just an addtional note that AS9100 can be used with 9001 as a company I worked for ran an IMS with AS9100, 9001, 18001 and 14001 which worked quite well.
