I need to refresh my memory. Can anybody indicate me about any guidlines on how to carry out a noise survey in a workplace?

Thanks for your quick reply in which there is useful information. What I am after is how to take measurements and then make a schematic drawing to present as a report for the employer. What we used to do is make a drawing of the workplace and then plot the measurements within the drawing so that then we have records on all the sources of noise. From this then one can tackle the problem if any. Hope this still the method on how to do it.

You could try Appendix 1 of http://www.hse.gov.uk/pubns/priced/l108.pdf as a starting point - no info re schematic drawings if I remember rightly but certainly good info re taking measurements etc

I was going to direct you to the same source as HPhilips has already posted. Try Part 2 of the document, which is good on assessment and gives the minimum requirements for a record of exposure. Drawings are good but don't forget this is about personal exposure not static exposure. I don't want to be rude but are you sure you are competent to do this if you have to ask such a basic question?

Hi, if you can get hold of a copy of BSEN 11202 Measurement of emission sound pressure levels at a workstations and at other specified positions, it gives the basic outlines on what the expectations are.

Thats the way I do it,I get a site drawing, mark up areas of site applicable, record on the sheet, then I go onto www.noisemeters.co.uk, and enter the data, which gives you a report.

As sometimes happens when you work in H&S there are some assessments that are not carried out out frequently and since as probably you know regulations, standards and methods tend to upgrade / change and asking doesn't harm anybody. Anyway thanks for your help :-)

Louis, the folk at healthandsafetytips provide a useful download for a noise method/plan http://www.healthandsafe...ownloads_Pages/Noise.htm It's in MSWord so it's a template that you can develop for your specific area/situation. John
