Is there anyone in IOSH Healthcare Group willing to share good practice around how to meet the latest NHSLA targets of 95%for training compliance in health and safety related topics. We have a whole array of training options but still stuggle to meet the compliance target. Doctors are a particular problem but in the current climate of budget cutting and restrictions on hours there is not the same time opportunities for people to undertake the training across the healthcare sector. Any ideas or methods that have worked would be good.

Hi Lynne, Are you aware of the Medical Device Driving Licence? This is basically a scheme that has been developed to allow health care professionals to 'self learn' about medical devices and undergo an online assessment. A bit detailed to explain on a post however the link below will provide more detail. It won't solve all the issues but may be of some assistance http://www.mddl.org.uk/mddl/index.php Regards FH

I don't know if this is any good to you but it may solve some of your issues. (ps I have no connection with this particular organisation but do know of people who use it) http://www.redcrier.com/silver-box/

Lynne - know where you are coming from - we too struggle with this. We are gradually getting there though but this has been a long slog that started with getting Board level input into accepting what was necessary from each directorate and then "robustly encouraging" their respective teams to ensure the training is carried out. We have blended learning, face to face, themed, e learning, you name it, we got it. Yet still struggling principally with the hands on people as they have been told they do not spend sufficient time with users of the services & too much time on the computer or in the office - so all the effort we put into providing differing ways of delivering training has sort of taken a back seat to this new initiative. Hey Ho you can't win them all. One method that we have had some success with is themed days, where (say) 2 days is entirely devoted to training for a whole team ie they get their statutory and some mandatory training in one hit - it takes some administering but seems to work.
