We store various 25ltr plastic containers of mostly flammable chemicals in a locked store on an isolated site.
The store is fitted with a smoke detector, is enclosed concrete and only has access doors on the outside of the building.
It was fitted with a bunding wall, which has been damaged, then removed.
My question is - are you required to have a bunding wall in this scenario?
Thanks for any advice.

From an environmental (and a safety) point of view I guess it depends upon how many of the said 25ltr plastic containers there are - usually as a rule of thumb the more there are the more precautions you need to take. Also what is in the vicinity - aquifers? SSSI? Watercourses? etc etc. More detail needed please.

The store itself could be bunded? Build a bund retention step at the door. Ensure air bricks /openings at least 250mm above FFL.

Bunding is a likely requirement unless other containment measures are available. However, I would suggest that you obtain a copy of HSG51 - 'The Storage of Flammable Containers in Buildings' and read through it to establish what specific requirements apply in your particular circumstances.

Hi Paul,
Suggest you also refer to the Environment Agency Pollution Prevention Guidelines: PPG26 in particular, PPG29, PPG51, PPG52.
