Hello Everyone I have been given the task of developing a new Traffic Management Plan for my Company and would be grateful if anyone could offer any advice or, if possible, provide me with a best practice example of a Traffic Management Plan. I was thinking of developing a written document describing how the people and plant interfaces would be managed on site then accompanying this with a drawing of the site showing access / egress points, pedestrian walkways, vehicle routes etc. Your help with this matter is much appreciated. Thanks Claire

Hi Claire, You may want to download a copy of HSG136 Workplace Transport Safety: An employer’s guide from HSE Books as a starting point. Thanks, Martin

Claire, You are on the right path, but you need to have a look at your companies operations and company requirements. Layouts are brill for displaying so at a glance everyone can see where the prefered traffic routes are. When it comes to the written plan, it needs to be such that when briefed to the operatives on site they can understand their duties and the requirements, and needs to be specific to that particular site. Things you need to also look at are the Section 61 (council requirements) for that area, the Clients requirements (if you are a subby), it needs to fall in line with their opening hours, delivery schedules, local traffic routes, the on site traffic management for vehicles and plant, and the access for emergecny services are but a few of the points that come to mind.
