Dear All, Our company has no major major accident and no EHS non compliances. I would like to know what are any other interested topic to be discussed in the EHS Committee meeting as we convene every month. I need topic that will motivate the members and to be more fun.

No major accidents doesn't neccessarily mean no areas for improvement. I'd take a look at the overall accident stats and identify any possible trends, then take that for review with the committee. Also look at what near misses are being reported (if any) and do the same thing. If there's no near miss data then thats also another area for discussion. I'm a great believer that most minor accidents/near misses are only a dice throw from escalating to the next level and its always worth asking the question 'this happened, what stopped it from being worse?'.

To challenge complacency you could consider how prepared you are for an emergency - how good are your fire procedures and first aid arrangements? Talk through some scenarios. Or you could run a short session on a topic such as accident investigation, using an example from elsewhere. There are videos to help with this.

Ask yourself do you really need to have the meeting monthly? If you are struggling for topics to raise it might be worth reducing the amount to Bi monthly and this would give you time to raise topics about anything on site or maybe new initiatives that are coming into H&S

Perhaps start looking at things like; 1. the types of PPE used, and if they can be improved for use/ comfort, get the workers involved, and perhaps samples distributed, 2. H&S issues that have cropped up on site(s), how remedical action was taken and how good the outcome was (not accident related - more housekeeping/ cable management etc) 3. Perhaps absence rates can be reviewed, they dont directly relate to H&S, but if there is a pettern in absence like every Monday, perhaps there may be other issues affecting that person (stress, problems at home, perhaps substance abuse at weekends?)

I would agree with Invictus. Also, why not ask the safety reps on your committee for idease from the shop floor?

How about some Human Factors topics? The Energy Institute publishes some nice topic specific primers that could spark a conversation or two: http://www.energyinst.or...n-factors-briefing-notes Richard
