I have started a new job and need to put together power point presentations for employees / supervisors / managers / directors. Budget is tight, otherwise I would have gone down the IOSH course route. Has anyone had to do something similar which I could use as a starting point (fully aware that it has to be relevant to the industry). thank you in advance

IOSH do have some free presentations on the www - there's one for LAs that could be adapted for managers. Google "think about health and safety iosh". (other search engines are available)

On what subjects do you require presentations if you let me know I can pass some of the many on, I have depending on subject matter. PM me with your details etc and if I have anything that might be of use I will pass on.

I tend to Yahoo! (other search engines are available) for similar courses, eg Working Safely, Managing Safely and check the content. Then use those subject lines to build up training customised for your audience.

I've just had to update one for my company. Google images are a constant source of amusing HSE images. I used the companies risk assessments as a basis for what to focus the presentation on. I added in a few practical exercisise like completing a risk assessment for a simple job and then using it to take out a permit to work and conduct a toolbox talk. Dressing someone up in full PPE can be amusing, or making them do star jumps while wearing a respirator

Can’t help you with any templates, but “Google”/Yahoo may have something close to what you are looking for, then you can tweak as necessary to make them more specific to your exact needs. Adding site specific digital images (possibly of good and bad practice) can also be a great way of getting the message across. In my personal opinion the more specific to the actual workplace the training is the better. Failing having any templates then simply putting together a few simple slides on the areas/topics you wish to address should not be to onurus. With regards to PowerPoint presentations, I am a strong advocate of using the text on slides as an aid memoir for the presenter and not for the trainees. I have personally attended sessions where the slides are crammed full of text that the trainer simply read out (not very stimulating or interesting); which meant that I like other attendees just read ahead of the trainer. With regards to the coal face workers, then I wouldn’t recommend spending ages talking about law/legislation as their interest can very quickly wane; and finally try to make the presentations as interactive as possible, get the audience as involved as possible, throw questions and scenarios out at them to get them thinking.
