Hi, I have recently joined a company setting up a new site in old premises in chemical manufacturing. One of the first jobs was to organise LEV testing for fume cupboards and plant LEV points. Unfortunately these failed, and I have had trouble finding a reliable fan engineer to review the entire system and also a company that can come in and clean the ducting of the LEV system as some deposition has occurred at some points due to low flow. We are based in Central Scotland, so the few companies I have found either don't work this far North or I have been waiting several weeks for quotes to come back, despite chasing them. Any local or national recommendations would be gratefully received.

Buiding and Engineering Services Association - formerly the HVCA has a contractor finding page on their site. http://www.b-es.org/locate-a-member/ 9 Scottish firms are listed as being ductwork and LEV cleaning specialists. 3 of these contract out the work leaving 6 with in house expertise. B&ES does encompass a wide range of memberships and many of the ductwork cleaners will be used to cleaning grease extraction systems in kitchens. Make sure to enquire of their experience in your particular trade sector.

Thank you Stevie, that is a great llittle link there ! And yes, the worst part has been sifting through websites and contacting a number of companies that only clean ducting for commercial kitchens, etc. I need someone capable of working in the chemical industry !

Adrian - you are sort of in a middle ground. I know of many contractors who specialise in cleaning pipeline services in petrochem industries but their pigging and flushing equipment is not appropriate. Of the ones I linked to earlier, Richard Irvin Building Services seems to fit based on client portfolio and past projects. Presumably you know what the deposited materials are and their various properties. If so, it should be possible to work with the contractor to devise a safe method of working and a suitable level of PPE for their operatives. Most will also provide you with full system schematics and before / after cleaning photos as evidence of work carried out. They will also work with you to devise a suitable cleaning regime / frequency.
