Evening all,
I'm after some advice on water temperatures in a care facility.
I'm aware that there is a requirement for TMV's to be installed in areas acceptable to Service Users but I'm finding that in other areas such as a sluice room, kitchen or laundry the temperatures are excessive, with some cases being near 70c.
Now I'm thinking that TMV's should be installed in these areas to comply with the reasonably practicable duty, but if these were installed at what maximum temperature would they be set.
Now at the moment there is "Caution Hot Water" stickers installed but this is not enough as I can reasonably foresee an injury from scalding taking place.
I cannot find any published guidance or standards on this.
Can you help?

Not excessive, but absolutely necessary for hygiene purposes in the areas you mention. Perfectly permissible. Vulnerable groups should not have access.
There is published guidance confirming this (NHS Technical Memorandum I think) but the reference escapes me for now.

Agree with Ron - those temps are absolutely necessary and it is quite in order to restrict access so that vulnerable persons are not put at risk of scalding. Loads of guidance out there to support this: Dept Health HTM04:01 is the memorandum Ron refers to but there is also guidance in Model Engineering Specification DO8 TMV's in HealthCare Premises; BS7942:2000 TMV's for use in Care Establishments; log on to the TMVA (any search engine will find it for you) There is a code of practice for Safe Water Temperatures. Generally you will find that temperatures for TMV's are factory set and it is unlikely you will have the opportunity to alter this as they operate on a tolerance margin to cut out if temps significantly increase or decrease.
