Hello Gents,
I'm working as an HSE officer in construction site. My simple question is:
1. Is one person allowed to operate and work at the same time inside the MEWP basket while working at height?
2. Is it also allowed to work alone inside a steel manbasket working at height? (with the aid of a crane)
With this, a spotter or watchman is on the level ground.
Thank you for your help.

It's rather difficult to operate the controls and carry our work at the same time, in the same way it would be difficult to knit whilst driving your car.
Can you perhaps clarify?

Do you mean is it OK for someone to be in the cage without someone else also being in it? This is normal practice. Where you need someone else is on the ground to react if there is a problem (eg by using the ground-level emergency control to bring the cage down).

Not all gents on here!!
1. MEWP - yes this can be done, once there is a watchman at ground level, who knows how to operate the emergency stop button in the event of an emergency.
2. Does he/ she have a radio for communication with the crane operator?
