Hi all,
I am after some advice with regards to possibily breaking into the O & G Industry, I am currently working as a HSE Manager for a security provider in Iraq who provide security for a construction company who are involved in the reconstruction within the oil fields. I have experience as a senior HSE Consultant with a variety of clients. I hold the NEBOSH Diploma; the General; Construction; Fire Management and International Oil and Gas Certificates; BS18001 Lead Auditor Cert, and am a Chartered Member of IOSH. I have sent C.V's to the big players Shell, BP, Exon Mobile, but have not been sucessful.
I am looking for a new challenge, any advice greatly recieved. Many thanks in advance.
Regards
Tony

Tony Consider Aberdeen as a base and widen your scope of potential employers. Keep your C.V. down to 2 pages at most and relevant to HSE. Get your CV online. Lots of positions going, however it all depends on your expectations re salary, position etc. Many positions are systems related - 9001/14/18/FPAL/Achillies etc. Salaries at this level - 40k to 65k tops. Big players pay more at senior level. Housing expensive. Roads systems worse than London. No guarantees and a wee bit cleaky!!

It is worth looking at any job in the sector, including contractors and service companies. The 'big players' in the sector are inundated with applicants and, in my opinion, have some strange ideas as to what they think is a suitable candidate profile in some cases. Once you're established in the industry you can then look at moving on to other challenges and may find that working for the larger operators is not necessarily the ideal environment for you to flourish.
Good luck

Are you interested in HSE work within oil and gas actually in Iraq? If so we need to find a way of making contact.

With your experience in the Middle East you may be better off targeting your search towards the UAE or Oman. More money, less tax and you are already familliar with the culture and working environment

Listen to seebee as its much much easier to get in the door from abroad than it is from the UK, USA & the European main land etc and the only way is to get yourself around and make contacts and more contacts and you appear to be in a good position to do that as you are already close to a work area
Having said that I cannot understand why people bother these days, except for the money and that is not was it used to be as I am lead to believe that compared to my day all the 'crack' ansd perks has gone out of the game
best of luck, keep trying and throwing out your net as all you need is the one trip and you are most of the way there
