Hi , have someone that has a issue with wearing the leather issued gloves we supply to staff, because he is a vegan. Anyone else had this one? I have tried to look for alteratives , but proving difficult .
Thanks in advance

I think this is one for HR.
By all means provide him with something suitable if it's easily done, that's just good employee relations.
However, you have a legal duty to ensure his safety but none to accomadate his life style choices (well not this one anyway).

Confined,
What are the gloves providing protection for? What is the job the guy is carrying out?

The gloves are used for animal handling ,preventing bites scratches etc

Is there an irony that the use is for handling animals?

My first ever post, so I hope this link works!
http://www.greenham.com/...Safe-Medium-Kevlar-Glove
I had the same issue with a Meter Reader and picked him up some of these... we then moved away from leather all together and use these all the time now. (There are other suppliers, but this is the one I have safed no my computer!)
They also do added 'sleeves' which can be worn with them to extend the areas protected.

try these people:
http://www.ppss-group.com/ (I have no links with them)
Their gloves were developed for protection for security guards and social workers from bites so would be very suitable. I have received some samples and they would doubtless be very good for your application although unfortunately not suitable for mine.

Hello Confined
I to have the same issue as your employee but with safety footwear as most use leather. For the gloves I have always used Kevlar (many different suppliers) and they are available in many styles to suit. Over time most people that I have worked with have moved to using them as the fit is much better as they have an elasticated effect. Running a web search for Chrome free usually works for footwear if you have an issue with these as well. Many of the German safety footwear manufactures do a chrome free option.

Leather has limited value in gloves anyway. It has good abrasion resistance but poor cut and puncture resistance.
Use Kevlar/dyneema as an alternative
