Hi, Has anyone completed the FPA course "Fire Risk Assessment in Healthcare Premises" How did you find this course? Did the course content help you in your workplace? I have just recruited a full time adviser and am thinking of sending them on this course. Thanks for any help/advice. Cheers HB

I too have recently began as a helathcare advisor. I'm unable to comment on this particular course but I completed a two module IFSM accredited Fire Manager course with Vulcan Fire Training. Successful completion of Module 1 gives you a stand alone Fire Risk Assessment qualification and you can then follow this up with Module 2 should you wish to or as part of CPD to gain the IFSM Technician status. The course was very well delivered at a comfortable pace with an abundance of material handed out to students on disc. Although not specifically directed at healthcare, I would certainly recommend this course to any would be advisor if they have no formal qualification. George

Contact peter aldridge at leeds hospital he will tell you when the next NAHFO (national association of healthcare fire officers) course is on at loughbrough university this is THE course for healthcare fire officers, also i would recommend this new person join his nearest NAHFO branch. Also tell this new person to send me his e mail (Hospital not personnal) and i will send his brain into overdrive with current Firecode HTMS and other stuff not available on the web such as lectures, ward risk assessments etc its one thing doing a small premises risk assessment its another doing a hospital which contains everything from the 2 second old baby to an old gent that is 106, then there are the areas of special interest theatres, itu which require constant monitering machines to keep them alive, do you have battery operated ressusitators are the staff trained to use them, then theres the bed ridden patients the walking wounded, the fire starters confussed geryatric peadiatric and mental health, procedures policys training and major incidents and he will be the expert-- i wish your new starter good luck and dont push too much on him to start with, nearly forgot unwanted fire signals are a good starter for ten to get some points in
