Does anyone know of a prosecution for not having a Method statement? My understanding is work must be risk assessed and a safe system of work must be in place. when reviewing a safe system of work, does anyone have a standard form to use? Many thanks

Paul, there are prosecutions for not having a safe system of work, and codes of practice may recommend a 'method statement' as part of a safe system. A complex job, one that needs to be set up with equipment, tools, trained employees and controls (to ensure safety) will benefit from planning that includes a written 'method statement'. The absence of such may be mentioned in an inspector's report or a judge's summing up.
