Hi all

Im not a lover of giving "mundane" toolbox talks, I dont believe they could be as effective as they could be. What im talking about is getting up and reading about a certain topic.

What im asking, do any of you do anything different? Maybe the use of pictures, interations etc etc??

Hi speed. The nature of my toolbox talks depends on the customer. I use the term 'toolbox talk' because they all recognise that term as meaning a briefing from the safety guy, but in some cases it becomes formal training which they log in their records.

Building sites / construction - toolbox talks usually centre around a recent incident or observed bad practice, and usually includes photos - no hard hat, ladder not tied, accident investigation, site housekeeping etc etc.

Factory - as above, but I also use the term for management/supervisors briefings or reminders e.g. wearing of PPE, highlighting high noise issues, or a HAVs issue with a tool, correct operation of permit to work, how to complete checklists, workplace traffic rules etc.

More formal 'toolbox talks' are really refresher training e.g. for safety reps, run through a presentation on HaSaWA or 6pack.

Totally different in my world a TBT is a pre works brief completed at the worksite to discuss the hazards, risks and control measures and responsibilities concerning the job about be completed. It originally came from the fact that good communication was one of those required tools.
