Is anyone aware of a EU or British Standard for Colour Coding in the Workplace? I am aware of the Australian Code AS1318 - industrial safety colour code, however wondered if HSE / EU have a similar version?

I guess it depends on what you want to colour code in the workplace:- Safety signs = green for safe condition, blue for provision of safety information, red for mandatory & fire instructions, yellow for hazards Electrical = green & yellow for earth, brown for line, blue for neutral or have I got hold of the wronig end of the stick?? ISO 7010 would be the closest (as far as I am aware) as mentioned above it covers Safety Signage. I don't think it goes as in depth as to dictate the actual colour code as AS1318 does, but I could be wrong.

BS ISO 7010:2011 is about "Graphical symbols. Safety colours and safety signs. Registered safety signs" It also cross-references other British & International Stamndards :- http://shop.bsigroup.com.../?pid=000000000030203793 BS ISO 3864-4:2011 is about "Graphical symbols. Safety colours and safety signs. Colorimetric and photometric properties of safety sign materials"

Not sure if its relevant here - pipework colour coding is (or used to be - not sure if it's still current...) BS1710... Several tape and marker suppliers available from Google... Steve

Thanks for responses... I don't think the UK has a version of AS1318 which covers colour coding for workshops including floors, hazard areas, chemical storage areas and quarantine zones etc. I am reluctant to purchase a copy of 7010 until I'm sure of the content. Could someone have a peek and advise before I buy?

BS ISO 7010:2011 only covers "Safety Signs". It does not cover safety colour "markings" for pipework, traffic routes etc. However, you may find ISO 3864-1 useful as it includes "markings". http://bzwxw.com/soft/Up...ew4/ISO--3864-1-2002.pdf
