Without knowing more about your situation, its difficult to be specific. It partly depends on how ATE/DSEAR impacts on your business/work activities. At an operator/shop floor level - operators will need to know the results of your risk assessment and what they actually have to do in terms of working practices e.g. safe handling/use of flammable liquids etc Manager/technical level - how to do a DSEAR risk assessment, what the regulations require, recognition of good working/technical practices, what the important issues are - identification of ignition sources, basic chemistry/material properties, understand the technical terms about Flashpoints etc. Understand the ATEX classification system. Understand how to undertake Hazardous Area Classification. BS60079-10 or IP15 Engineer level - the above plus the specific technical specifications and standards relating to electrical equipment, especially. Maintenance and testing requirements. I would suggest you need to do a job safety analysis (JSA) with respect to DSEAR. Send me a message if you would like further help

In my experience of offshore, petrochem and the water industries, you didnt get to touch anything unless you had sat your Atex course. Have a google for 4 square consultancy in scotland, we used them before to ensure compliance , no connection apart from a satisfied customer Tony

Tony, agree with previous comments re type & level of training. My previous employer used a company called sira environmental. http://www.siraenvironmental.com/default.aspx I have no idea about the cost of the training, but it was very thorough (even the basic course). PH2
