Hi Guys
now I have recovered from "Olympo mania" was wondering if any of you good people can offer some guidance on the following.
We have been tasked to test circuits on a fuse board and to do so it will mean removing the fuse. The fuse(s) are the old two pronged bakalite type that have an asbestos material fire guard behind the fuse wire. Sadlythere is no way of testing the circuit without removing the fuse.
My quandry is - we are not goingto know the condition of the fuse until we remove it to test the circuit. When the fuse is removed we will then discover how friable the asbestos material fire guard is.
If it is degraded etc then we have released fibres etc. So should the guys conducting the task be class two asbestos trained? and would this type of work be deemed as NNLW
Thanks in advnace once again to all who may be able to offer guidance

Logikglos, HSE Asbestos essentials task sheet A33 should be the best source of guidance for this.

Lojikglo,
To answer your question...yes and yes. It would be good practice to get background air monitoring done too, then you can use this infomation to reassure those that need to be reassured and to inform any work that might be repetetive or very similar in nature.

As an aside ACM can also be found in cartridge type (sealed) fuses and as little 'discs' within the screw heads of the fuse holders themselves. An ACM flashguard is very visible, the above mentioned are not. So be careful y'all.

If it worries you why dont you isolate the whole db.
Cut the conductors above the fuse, carry out the deat tests and re crimp cables.
Fill in appropriate limitations on certificate.
Or indeed just recommend a full db change, and after isolating cut all conductors after the fuse.
