Would anyone happen to have an audit checklist for the installation of central heating systems, although we are utilising GAS SAFE enginereers with the appropriate cards and registration. We want to monitor their work to demonstrate our duty of care and ensure they are complying with current legislation.

Leerob - I don't have a checklist but you might find reading through COP20 (free download form HSE website) Standards of training in safe gas installation - of some help to draw up your own checklist. Regards

Leerob, It all depends on who are the "we" you mention that will be monitoring the work. I am making an assumption that you have the requisite training in gas safety & are registered? If not, can I respectfully suggest that whoever is doing these checks is suitably qualified? Zyggy (ex British Gas)

Make sure your engineer is registered to do the work. There are different qualifications for commercial gas and domestic gas boilers

I'd tend to go for a more up-front approach and ask the relevant competent contractor to provide me with the information I need. Good companies won't have a problem with this. Much does depend on the type of installation. A recent problem (e.g.) in domestic situations was failure to check the integrity of flues going through loft spaces. By far the biggest issue I have with boiler installations are manual handling issues. Boilers are HEAVY, but we routinely design for installation in a cupboard you couldn't swing a mouse in, or place them above a kitchen worktop. Audit that if you dare!
