Could anyone clarify if it is a legal requirement to have zone plans positioned adjacent to the fire panel in a building?
Recently had a reqsponse to an incident in one of our buildings and we were critisized by the Fire Officer for not having plans available.

It's not specifically written in to the law but if it would be useful to the fire service, why not have one?

Check with your Fire Alarm Service provider, if they fitted the alarm they will have had to display a zone drawing next to the panel under British Standards (don't quote me but I think it is BS 5839-1 2002+A2 2008 and BS 6266 2011), being practical about it the service provider should be able to provide you with a drawing if they didn't fit the panel originally.
It would also help & aid the fire service in getting people and themselves out safely in the event of an emergency.

No legal requirement, Good practice. As others as said this can be used as an aid in a numbers of situations eg identify area of false/activation.

the user should be left with certificate for design installation and commissioning an adequate O&M Manual As fitted drawings a log book A record of any variations
I imagine the RA for the building will inform you what you need to display, each fire officer having his her own view of course. what kind of building/ no of storeys/ intended use are we discussing?
