Folks Does anybody have a risk assessment for high pressure water jetting and also for using the vacumm on a vacumm tanker to suck up rags etc when cleaning drains. I would appreciate it if someone could share their risk assessment if at all possible. I have tried the water jetting federation for information but they cant send me anything until next week and I need it today,. Thanks eddie@bpmckeefry.com

I only have assessments for divers, which I don't think will help. I'm not sure what pressures you're dealing with - High Pressure Injection I think can be anything up to 8000psi and then you're looking at a higher risk of puncture injuries which can be like a hot knife through butter. Also considering what, if any contaminent is on the surface of what you're jetting - mists. Noise also needs to be considered Slips, trips - winter conditions / gritting Projectiles hitting passers-by Mind dump done for the time being.

Do a google search for high pressure injection injuries as there is a lot of good information available. pressures as low a 100psi can puncture the skin and the danger is of infection from the injected media not just the injection injury which are similar to crush injuries and high velocity gun shot injuries. I suffered a high pressure injection injury myself some 11 years ago whilst undertaking some hydro demolition works. I was cutting concrete on a bridge when i was hit in the forearm by the water jet as the lance failed due to metal fatigue (water pressure being used was 22,000psi delivering 40 litres of water per minute). This cost me a 7 night stay in hospital whilst hooked up to an intreveinous anti biotic drip, 3 operations within the 7 day period, a lot of pain & suffering and got told on the 3rd day that i was lucky and that i wouldnt be losing my arm. I also had to take 6 weeks off work, and undergo a hell of a lot of phyisotherpay for months afterwards i even had to learn how to write all over again. I am also aware of another similar accident wherby an operative was hit in the back by the water jet and it passed straight through him exiting his chest like a gun shot. Quite fortunatley he survived without any major injuries. happy jetting allan
