I am currently in the early stages of a project looking at workplace transport safety, particularly with regards to Warehousing and Distribution. Whilst carrying out some initial research, I have found two systems which appear to be worthy of further consideration.
The first of these is a 'Blue Light' device which is fitted to Forklift trucks and projects a circle of blue light onto the warehouse floor a few metres ahead and behind (depending on direction of travel) as a warning to other MHE / pedestrians.
The second is in essence is a RF device permanently attached to forklifts and other MHE which 'senses' pedestrians (with a tag) and MHE and can be programmed to take some form of action (slowing, stopping, audible alarm etc).
If any of you have knowledge or experience of these, it would be very useful if you could please let me know of your thoughts on them as I seek to look at all options available. I know that these will not provide a total solution to the issues, but I want to gauge how useful they might be.
Many thanks in advance for your assistance.

The latter i believe is being trialed at a collegues depot where they do a lot of racking picking both pedestrial and MHE, will get the details & thoughts/concerns if any and pass them on.

The Blue light and RF devices are very good options, however competency of the operator is a matter to consider. Why can't you fix some convex mirrors in the corners and cameras at the rear of the MHEs??

Dennish and Padmakumar - Many thanks for your replies.
Dennish - I look forward to hearing of your colleagues experiences in due course.
Padmakumar - Operator competency is most certainly under consideration as are convex mirrors and rear view cameras. The aim is to try and look at all possible options to get robust preventive measures in place.
