Was it just me who sat through another show with the wonderful Sarah a week back?

Did I really see people working on a roof without edge protection? Or People handling a rather large RSJ whilst balancing of builders trestles with no hard hats etc?

I'm sure our lady was fluffing about on other stuff but I was laughing too much to care. I think H&S is an uphill struggle the best of times without this rubbish on the TV.

Perhaps I should lay of the wine.

Rob

I sent an e-mail off with a CV attached to the programme Cowboy Builders 'starring' Melinda Messenger a couple of years ago after watching one programme where a man was straddled over a 6ft fence with a large RSJ directly over his head (without protection) while it was hanging from a crane hook.
I asked the production team 'Who was in charge of health and safety' and also innocently asked 'What could have possibly gone wrong' during their work as seen on TV?
You may not be surprised i received no reply.

There is always one thing you can do and that is to get a life.

Aimed at anyone who watches a programme and gets wound up by the actions of the people in it.

I go home watch the telly and if they want to balance on one leg 60 foot up leaning out with the potential to fall tough look on them. I certainly wouldn't have sleepless nights over it.

Dear Invictus

When rubbish is placed on TV, some people, sad as it is, take it as read that it's ok to copy. 'If Sarah shows it on the box it must be fine'.

Sorry if you feel the way you do but there you go.

For me, if I see something that the old brain gets involved in, or makes me feel emotional about something then it's worth watching. I like ballet (watching), love Darcy B, Motorcycling and ultra/micro light flying. Mountain biking when I can. All the above make me scream and yell. I see people blowing other peoples brains out and that hits me too. Emotional? me? Yep. I have a life mate and would like others to keep on living. Is you real name Richard Head by any chance?

Perhaps I'm mistaking you for someone else.

Personal? Me?

Sorry ClaireL, I hate people who throw things. Can never recall what they are called. Something to do with pancakes?

I'm used to being 'removed' by the mods. They let stuff be aimed at me but as soon as the old one kicks back...zap!

Invictus:

Your response to zimmy is baffling, this is, as you may have noticed a health and safety forum with a wide range of aspects up for discussion, so talking about a safety issue that was seen on national TV is exactly what this forum is for.

Zimmy:

I doubt builders will copy what they see on a TV show, and there is a wider question about how the media portray people at work. Those builders werent employed or managed by the TV company, so you could ask if the producers have any responsibility here?

I've seen presenters pass comments on poor practices (including safety) on other property programmes (Grand Designs). Rather than sanitise every aspect of production this is a more enlightened approach IMHO.
