Part of the company I work for is opening a sales office in Milan. Is anyone aware of any H&S colloquialisms that are specific to Italy or Milan. I realise that in theory the Italians follow the same European regulations as we do in the UK but wondered if anyone who read this forum had any direct experience having worked or had responsibility there

Maybe 12 years ago during an audit at a metalbashing plant near Milan, I discovered a large power press being operated with the light guards disabled. Why? Normal working hours are ended, this is R&D, said the local safety manager.
Theory is great, but reality is very different.

I do not speak Italian but I am willing to undertake an immersive course for 6 months in Milan if you are willing to pay for it. All in the interest of H&S of course.
Pity Merv's not about he has probably worked there at some point in his career.
Sorry I cannot be of any direct help but Northen Italy has an enviable record in the construction of machinery. Most of our pallatisers and wrappers came from there and were well constructed. Lots of shared knowledge and transfer of standards between manufacturers in Northern Italy with Switzerland, Austria and Germany well before the EEC came about.
