Hello,
I have been given a leaflet that states vehicles with AC electrical units must be tested and inspected regularly.
Now to me this is an in house visual inspection ?
The person that passed it to me has been told by the company of the leaflet that we must pay a thrid party to do these checks.
I think its a money spinner. Am I correct?
What do you suggest.

I presume you are talking about 12v to 240v inverters? If so, I'd be considering formal testing by a competent person (this is beyond a simple visual check).
The inverters are effectively portable, may be liable to damage or overloading, are not earthed, and are presumably used in hostile environments. Without some formal testing, how can you be satisfied that they do not present a significant risk?
You mention a leaflet, but do not say who it was produced by? Is it a credible industry source providing guidance on best practice?
It may be a cost, but...

Lisa. The use of 'fixed' 240v wiring in motor home, broadcasting vans, libraries, etc is covered by the IET Wiring Regulations (BS7671). Therefore a competent electrician is required. A domestic electrician may be happy to do this. . regards Peter

3 above good advice. Nice one. 230v with one 20th of an amp passing through a persons body is just about enough to kill in the right circumstances.
The person asked to do the testing should be qualified to C&G 2391 Inspection, testing and certification of electrical installations.
