I have read the WAH regs, ACOP, etc & my view is if you work at height using a harness then as the later states you must be trained & competent, Although i have a sub contractor that states harness training is sufficient & within the regs for working at heigh-What do you think??

There iare many factors to this question, but my intial thoughts are, a harness is used in many ways, (MWEPS, SCAFFOLDING , CONFINED SPACES etc etc ) operatives can receive harness training, this does not meant that they are trained in the specfic W@H system, there are many W@H systems, which in my opinion you are perfectly right to ask if the company if the operatives have had training in the specified system.

There are more elements to W@H Training than just the safe use of Harnesses. The W@H Regs state the necessity to avoid W@H if possible and then prevent a person from falling.
The use of harnesses is further down the hierarchy and almost classed as a last resort.
Simply not enough training, imo

Thank you Guys for your comments, i agree with you both, unfortunatelly the manufacturers os the Trawler crane are not helping with their design & this is why personnel are required to use a harness.

Thanks MrH&S

Mr H & S

You keep coming up with some crackers concerning cranes.

This question obviously relates to the rigging of Crawler Cranes IMO if they have got harness Training Certificates then that is a bonus.

I would think you will find they are all CPCS card holders which means they have done a course in the Rigging and Operating of Crawler Cranes.

If you delve even further they are probably manufacturer trained.

The training given on these 2 courses would cover working at height as well.

Although you have not said I would think you are you are putting up wind farms therefore using reputable contractors and I would imagine if you ask for more evidence in their training and competence you will get it.

To finish on a lighter note if it is Trawler Cranes I know nothing about fishing.

Alex,

Thank for your comment, Although you have been looking at my previous post with regards to cranes, this post is regarding General work at height Although it is rigging & de-rigging of a TC.

For your info I have Delved into the training & the company dont have WAH, Also the harness training(all the courses I have been on is for inspection, storage & info on harness not specific to WAH

I hope this clears up any doubts you may have regading this post

Cheers MrH&S
