Hi everyone We're currently working on a site in London. The Main Contractor, has said that the HSE have just announced that all glass units supplied on stillages etc MUST be indivudually banded. This has been a requirement on other projects we've worked on, but I can see nothing from the HSE to say this is now their stance. Yes it may be good practice etc, but can anyone shed any light on this as far as the HSE are concerned? cheers.

Hi I haven't heard of this myself. The GGF have published a Best Practice guide for stillages to Sites and, the copy I have, doesn't state anything about individually banding panes. Main info on the stillage design and construction. Can you ask the Main Contractor for written proof or source of his info and in the meantime I will make further enquiries.

Hi Firesafetybod No it is not - the one I have is dated 2005 and is called Code of Practice Glass Suppliers - Use of Stillages. I haven't registered with GGF but I believe the above publication is on the website. Here is an interesting link from HSE regarding unloading stillages - dated 2005 http://www.hse.gov.uk/press/2005/e05079.htm
