I have been asked to look into compliance with Producer Responsibility Packaging Waste.
Having started my research I have found that we are over the 50 tonnes p/a criteria so we will be registering.

Does anyone know what the 'Compliance Scheme' is? Do you have to register for this as well?

Yes, there are actually several competing compliance schemes. These are businesses whose services you need to register and pay for. The best known is Valpak.

You don't have to register with a compliance scheme you can meet the compliance requirements yourself. I have worked with the regs over a number of years and they are very complex so it is easier by far to register with a compliance scheme. The compliance scheme will pick up all the EA registration etc and will make sure that you meet the recycling and recovery obligations. All you will need to do is calculate your packaging sales for the year and provide them with that information. The compliance scheme will usually help you with how you collect your data by auditing you and giving some advice on their findings.

Just some food for thought.......we had an audit from the Environment Agency last year and there were a few things that weren't straight forward and the auditor said that every company presents something different that you need to think how it applies to the regs. So if the EA auditor was still finding new things after 2 years it gives you an idea........
