For anyone who fancies a conkers bonkers type of discussion getting children to routinely wear helmets is up for discussion on the Wright Stuff show this morning.
Anyone from IOSH HQ up for chipping in?

Routinely wearing helmets for what? Conkers? Are there new rules I have not heard of? I would have liked some gloves maybe!

According to various sources "The wright Stuff" television programme on Channel 5 has a poor track record as regards intelligent, sensitive discussion of serious topics, e.g. re-trial of Amanda Knox in Italy, murder on Isle of Lewis. Therefore, I guess that most IOSH members would be dismayed if IOSH HQ devoted scarce resources at short notice to such a programme especially about a topic which is outwith the realm of OCCUPATIONAL safety and health.
Some forum users may well regard my comments above as lofty and pompous. Though they're entitled to express their views, I suspect they won't be able to persuade me to change mine! :-)

Having had the misfortune to see some day time tv I am in agreement with Graham. I too hope that IOSH don't pay any particular attention to this.
As Judith and her Team look at dismembering stories like this I think there will be a panel comment on it in the not too distant future.
Just out of mild curiosity- helmets for what?

Curiosity got the better of me so googled it and their website had :-
Part 7: Lids For Kids All Activities
And finally who thinks kids should be made to wear safety helmets for all activities? While some of you no doubt think you can’t be too safe as a motorcyclist I know all too well about the false sense of security a skidlid can give the wearer. So should children be made to wear a helmet for everything whether they be whizzing about on micro scooters to larking about?
