I have prepared a proposal to facilitate a workshop to promote awareness of health and safety issues in rice farming in the Ndop area of Cameroon, where traditional farming methods predominate, farmers work in extreme environmental conditions and do not have adequate access to information. The idea is also to show how innovative but simple rice production methods can increase productivity as well as improve health, safety and well-being of farmers in the area.
I would like to pass on the proposal and subsequent presentation to any IOSH member(s) for peer review to ensure quality control.

I would love to help here but being an electrician I would be of little or no use to you I think. I'm a Tech IOSH but there are many, many people here who are more than able to help and way up the IOSH ladder. However, If I can help in any small way just yell.

Dr Gabe, it sounds a very worthwhile exercise, and I'd like to help, but I know practically nothing about rice production and absolutely nothing about the Ndop area of Cameroon (until minutes ago, I didn't know there was an Ndop area of Cameroon, and even Wikipedia only knows that it exists).
Do you require actual assistance, technical input on some part of your proposal, perhaps? Or is it a case of wanting an outside review from people that are H&S aware (but probably don't know much about the specific application)?

Dr Gabe I regret that my own awareness of the Cameroon is limited to the prowess of the national football team, 'Les Lions Indomptables'. More happily, only this morning I read in the November 2012 issue of The Ergonomist of someone who may well be able to help you: he is Dave O'Neill, Chief Executive of he Institute of Ergonomics and Human Factors. He writes on page 5 that most of his career has been dedicated to promoting and applying ergonomics in the agricultural and food production sectorsm and that the most challenging and enjoyable aspects were with small-scale, subsistence farms in Africa and south-east Asia. He outlines these experiences in the journal Applied Ergonomics, vol 31. pp 633 -640, 2000. You can reach Dave at d.oneill@ergonomics.org.uk. tel. 01509 234904.

Once again this forum throws up an absolute corker of a response to a subject that probably flummoxed most of us. Well done KieranD.

Kieran, your commute to work must be a considerable distance...... I just about manage to scan through the Metro (other news papers are available) ;)

Regarding my 'commute to work', I suppose it takes me about six or seven strides from the kitchen to my home office desk; on a morning without my favourite tipple, that's about 6 or 7 seconds.....
