Just out of interest, what's the qualification or quality that splits 'super forum users' from the rest of us?
|
|

|
Rank: Super forum user

The amount of posts they've made.
IIRC, the 'new forum user' tag disappears after 10 posts. I think that 'forum user' changes to 'super forum user' after 300 posts.

Yep...and those of of us who have lost the will to live writing up reports.

Sean, it wasn't 'Super' that your Mum used to call you........ it was 'Special'! ;-)

I think I was the first and it was noticed by the Smurf?
We worked together to get him up to the super standard.
You don't have to be clever, or have many letters after your name, just be prepared to contribute even if you don't make any sense sometimes.
Oops I may have just given away my former ID.

But Zimmy if he knows things only a mad person would know, then tells you, by your own definition does this not also make you mad?
I’m disappointed that the super user can’t go faster than a speeding FLT, and leap correctly height adjusted steps in a single bound. With vision that can see through lies and the strength (of willpower) of ten to make it to the end of the day without alcohol and drugs, (obviously coffee would not count as a drug in this instance).

David B, you could spend a little time polishing the special plaque you must of received from IOSH (for such an achievement).
Polishing mine is no chore!

I'd love to get to 'super' status, but I've got too much real work to do ;)
But seriously, when I have a query, this is my first port of call.
So far, I've had a 100% success rate in terms of useful advice on all my questions.
Obviously this is down to the activity and quality of the people here - so thank you all very much,
especially the 'super' (or special) users here :)

Hate to tell you this Bob but it may be 500 now. I am close to three times your posts and there has been no such invitation as yet.

I have only just noticed I'm a super forum user and just checked I have made 354 posts, so I guess I have made 54 and not noticed, including my joking one earlier (I thought it was amusing, but I guess not)
I admit I tend not to look at my own profile and only did today as I asked yesterday for my group to be altered (which it has not as yet). Nice IOSH lady seemed to suggest it had been done while I was talking to her, perhaps it takes a while to kick in.

nickh at #2 is correct in his information. The forum system automatically changes the rank shown under a forum poster's name from forum user to super forum user when they have notched up 300 postings. From a posting some time ago this information is contained within the FAQs about the forum but unfortunately the FAQs don't seem to be available at present. Though there is some merit in someone being shown as a new forum user for his or her first 10 postings, I don't think there is any benefit in indicating those who have become ranked as super forum users. Nobody should interpret the designation to imply anything about the experience, competence or qualifications of such people and the accuracy and reliability of their postings. Also, the rank is not related to the frequency of anyone's postings. Someone could become a super forum user after finally notching up 300 postings over a long period of time and remain so even if they subsequently submit only one or two postings say every year.
The above factors underlay why I made an open plea on this forum almost a year ago to be re-ranked as a forum user after discovering that I'd just become a super forum user. As my plea went unheeded, please can anyone advise if they've been successful in asking to be re-ranked and add who they asked. In addition do any other super forum users wish to be re-ranked? ("De-ranking" would be an inappropriate term to use because there is nothing special about super forum users. They've done nothing more than submit at least 300 postings!)
Now for a question which some might think provocative: If there is a reasonable consensus among forum users that the rank of super forum user is a pointless one, should it be formally abolished?!

Graham, it bothers me not one jot that I am deemed a 'super' forum user.
Much better to have an edit function than be super forum user!!

Stuie - Despite having queried super forum user status, I care no more about it than perhaps half a jotlet. In relative terms it ranks as trivia amid other trivial matters.
What do you mean by an edit function? Surely every forum poster has eyes, a brain and fingers which they should use to check through what they've typed as a draft reply and make any amendments needed before clicking on the 'post' box. Also, there's the option to use the spell check facility by clicking on the little box marked ABC above each draft response. It's handy for finding typing errors and also provides some unintentional humour through the alternatives it suggests for words it thinks are questionable. I've just tried it and wasn't surprised that it challenged 'Stuie' and offered several alternatives including Sauté !
However, I'll repeat my ongoing plea for the top listings page of this forum to include a visible disclaimer about postings. The forum rules do include disclaimers about various aspects of postings but unfortunately the rules are only visible to people who have i) registered with the forum AND ii) are logged on the forum. Surely a visible disclaimer is needed especially for those who view the forum for the first time or remain as viewers and never register and log on.

Anyway: Shouldn't it be "Super forum-user"
Or "Super-Forum, user.
Or, "Super-User, forum.
Or "Got too much time and too few interests forum-user"
?

Edit functions are available on many forums and can be quite useful, not merely for correcting spelling mistakes, but for other bloopers as well, or even to add a post script. It would be a useful addition as would a 'bold' function to enable us to provide emphasis within our posts without SHOUTING! Of course if a post is 'HEAVILY' edited it might mean that subsequent posts submitted thereafter but prior to the editing might lose context or otherwise become 'less meaningful', or possibly meaningless (I can sense a response to that coming!)
There have been any number of requests for both of these functions, and I suspect that many of use were hopeful that this might have been accomplished following the recent maintenance of the forums. Not to be.
AS an aside, if you use Firefox then text input on 'forms' is spell checked 'automatically'

Afternoon all,
Whilst on the subject of status and what appears on the left hand side of our posts, do any of you have any quick tips on adding the 'avatar' as I do not seem to be able to upload one despite several attempts.
Many thanks.
