Dear colleagues,

I am now looking to progress my qualifications from NGC. My employer may sponsor me via the NVQ route but not Nebosh Diploma.

Can anyone recommend a provider for the qualifications?

Thanks

MAT

Hi Mat, where are you based?

I have for my sins done both and the NVQ is much more hands on and practical especially if you are already in a health and safety role.

I know of a Cheshire based firm who did Level 4 and 5 NVQs with a very well known bank up there in Scotland, so if you want their name just PM me.

I have just started (today!) the RoSPA City and Guilds level 5 .

Online system, mentor for advice and lots of information available.
So far so good, but I haven't done anything yet!

MAT, I'm in your neck of the woods (work in Dundee / P&K / Angus) and doing the NVQ5. I'll send you all the details when I get to work tomorrow. Good luck

I am defo not going to be very helpful here - I did NVQ 4 many many years ago and was one of the first in the North West to gain the award.

I feel so old now that I could not be bothered with all that hard work and effort involved with achieving those levels again but i do know how hard it was and wish you all the very best of luck and hope your hard work is worthwhile.

It is a long long road but worth it in the end.

Good luck.

I fully concur with Firesafety's quote above. I went the old NVQ 4 route and after passing (did it through Nottingham, British College of Safety - I think the recession has claimed them now) started a post on here when I was told the NVQ4 was equivalent to a degree. A right royal discussion took place and it was highly enjoyable to read a lot of opposing opinions.

The only thing about the NQV route is, you must have a Health and Safety Management system in place to pass it. I work with a colleague (Fire Safety Officer) who has NEBOSH Gen Cert and will have to progress by taking the Dip 1 and 2 route. When I told him there was only a 35% pass rate (first time) he nearly had a heart attack.
