As H&S co-ordinator for my building at a University, I have been asked about registering a laboratory for use with category 2 organisms ( tissue culture cells and micro-organisms): do HSE need to be notified for you to start using Cat 2 organisms (not GMO) and if so would the notification cover a) several different cell lines / micro-organisms within the laboratory if the laboratory is registered as Cat 2? b) each seperate Cat 2 cell line / micro-organism being used within the laboratory? I do have the HSE document on Biological agents to hand but am struggling with the interpretation! many thanks
