could anyone help, when looking to employ engineers from outside of the european union with qualifications from thier country of origin do we have to accept these qualifications or do these Engineers need to take a competency test to work in England as Engineers?

Hi,

The people to ask would be the relevant UK Institute - So, for example, if you are considering a mechanical engineer from the Far East the IMechE would be able to provide comparative qualification advise ( but probably for a fee ).

This does not apply to non-member states, but worth a quick night-time read...

Provided that the qualification is equivilent to those obtained in the member state. You cannot of course discriminate against anyone, but it would be suitable to be able to test the competence of any applicant during interviews, etc.
