As any one used ratchet straps as a gaurd rail, I am in the opinion that these are not fit for prupose, I am working on a site have have been told by the site agent that they will span a 7m span with ratchet starps advice quickly please. We are working 30ft up.

Do they meet the spec in Schedule 2 to the WAH Regs 2005?
Are they installed at 470mm and 950mm and strong enough to stop someone from falling?
Not used them personally (and I'm not in construction) but have experience using material other than metal barriers as edge protection without issue.

L
good advice from J
There is no law saying that one way must be used over another way in day to day construction/WAHeight so I see no problem in principal with what you have told us so risk assess and go with your findings

If spanning 7mtrs, it will surely flex to a point where it will not retain an operative?

That would be my concern.
It won't matter how tight you get them, (and then you have a risk of them coming free and taking someones eye out!)
they will flex and spin round if someone leans or falls against them.
You couldn't possibly consider it 'suitable' then could you? ??
