In addition to my NEBOSH qualifications I also have the NVQ Level 4, which was replaced a few years back by the NVQ Level 5.
Am I within my rights to highlight (on my CV) to prospective employers that the original NVQ Level 4 is equal to the newer Level 5 NVQ or would this information be incorrect?
Thanks in advance folks

I did the NVQ L4 just before it changed to Level 5
I have since done the level 5 to enable me to place it on my CV, I do agree it’s basically the same qualification however I did the upgrade so my certificate states level 5 and as such do not need to explain anything
I don't think it’s worth writing a cv with a lie on it - if found out it would not be the best start to a new role, however as you stated you can always explain at the interview that the Level 4 is the equivalent but to be honest it would never come up in conversation, it usually is what IOSH membership do you hold as both the 4 or 5 can get you to chartered status and as such explanations won’t be required

Alan,
I would never dream of putting a lie on my CV. Hence the reason for asking the question whether I could put a short explanation next to the NVQ Level 4.
I am chartered so I guess, I can follow up on the point at any interview stage.
I would still appreciate if anyone out there could actually confirm (one way or the other) whether the old Level 4 and the newer Level 5 are actualy one and the same though?

Bluewater, in essence it’s the same. You could simply place this info in your covering letter if applying for a position - but if you look at job adverts it still stats NVQ Level 4 so its not that widely know its changed.
I see the real dilemma here if for the people who undertook the old NVQ Level 5 - which now longer exists!!! Explain that one away - you have a qual at this level (NQF 7) worth what??
Ah well.

Is it the equivalent? I completed the 4 and within weeks it changed to the 5 and I had to add additional information that was not required under the 4 and it cost more. It doesn't always go that if the qulification is changed it automatically beciomes the same.
It would be worth contacting the certification body and asking them if it is the same, let us know if it is and I will claim the extra money I spent back!

Bluewater
I still believe the Level 4 is the same as 5
Like invictus I had to do the same and change a few things and also use audio evidence, each module is number different but the information required is very similar I used the same information I used for my Level 4
Cost me an extra £500 to upgrade

A colleague of mine did the C&G NVQ4 and I did the OCR NVQ5. The amount of work that I had to do was substantially more. My finished portfolio was at least treble in content and had much more variety and level of depth and detail. The London School of Economics has this to say, via wiki... http://en.wikipedia.org/...Vocational_Qualification

Hi
I also carried out my SVQ 4 back in 2007, should the SVQ not be contacting people who carried out the LvL 4 to notify them of any changes in their qualifacation.
I will be contacting them for advice, although from the above link i feel they would state i must carry out the SVQ 5 if i required the qualifacation.
