Is there a legal requirement under article 8 RRFSO to have an emergency gas shut off switch in kitchen restaurant?

The requirement for emergency shut off valves comes from the Gas Installation and Use Regs, I believe.
Also a requirement to display the gas emergency telephone number and to keep access clear to the emergency shut off valve.
This isn't specific to a restaurant, just to the gas system in a building

I would not expect a specific requirement like that to appear in the rrfso but I would expect the fire risk assessor to recommend such a cut off.

There is a gate type gas shut off valve in the kitchen but it is directly under the deep fat fryer and the FSO has stated during his audit that he requires an emergency gas shut off valve as part of article 8 RRFSO?

Article 8 says the Resp Person must take fire precautions as far is practicable etc etc The Resp Person will only know which precautions to make as a result of a fire risk assessment. So Article 8 does not specifically mention gas or valves, but this finding is a direct result of that Article (confused???? - I am ) :)

Whether legislation specifically demands something is a red herring. Industry guidance can and does stand up in a court of law as the standard that should have been achived, whilst using the vague section of the relevant legislation to actually bring the case.
For example. Prosecuted under section 8 of the RRFSO for not having suitable fire precautions. But the industry guidance to have a gas shut off valve is used as the standard to have been acheived.
By the way I don't know if that is the industry standard. I was just pointing out the concept.
