CDM site accident - should the CDMC investigate

We have a wholly enclosed CDM project going on within one of our buildings and a sub-contractor was hospitalised last week following an accident whilst demolishing a ceiling. The Principle Contractor has made the RIDDOR report and commenced an investigation.
Should the CDMC carry out an independent investigation or just review the PCs own investigation? I know what I think but just wanted to seek further views.
Thanks.

No self respecting CDMC should be involved in accident investigation - that is not his fuction or part of his role unless he is trying to cover his/her rear end .

Andrew, Provided that the CDMC advised the Client that the H&S Management arrangements for the project were satisfactory (and accepted by the Client), then IMHO the CDMC should stay out of it. It is a matter between the PC and their sub-contractor.
The Client will be entitled to ask for a copy of the PC's accident investigation report. When the inevitable claim lands on someone's desk seeking discovery documents, the fewer that have the CDMC's name on them, the fewer the opportunities there will be to question him / her.

PC's responsibility, not the CDMC's
