Hi all
I'm currently in my first CPD cycle as an Associate, working towards TECH SP. Can anyone please advise if there is a set number of points I need to achieve or is it a case of when I apply for an upgrade to Tech Sp there is a judgement made as to whether I have achieved enough points and of a varied scope?
Many thanks

Hi Mrs Noodles,
First off you don't have to do CPD at associate level (although it does help to get used to doing this) as it is not required for achieving Tech IOSH. To achieved Tech IOSH your need a level 3 qualification (e.g. NEBOSH General Certificate - use he membership tab to find more info and other recognised qualifications, it is readily available) you also need to show that you have been doing something in regards to health and safety (I got my TechIOSH in a part time role for health and safety) this is normally done by sending IOSH a CV.
If you have any concerns or need help please call the membership team - I found them very friendly and helpful when i first started out.

As above for me as well. Gen cert plus electrical experience in H&S. Again as above, give them a call it worked for me

Thanks both.
I already have my NEBOSH General Cert and I'm employed as a Health and Safety Advisor. As I studied my NEBOSH in 1999 since then has been significant changes made and the membership team have said that after a 12 month CPD cycle they will move me onto Tech IOSH.

Mrs Noodles There have been significant changes to the CPD requirements in recent months (there is a topic on this on the members' forum). As a consequence, I don't think any of us in the general membership is in a position to guide you.
Please do contact the Membership department to get definitive guidance.

Its worth speaking to membership to establish whether any of your work to date can be accredited for TechIOSH CPD. I did the certificate in the mid to late 1990's and went on the study for the original diploma, gaining me the old Technician Safety Practitioner (TechSP) status. I then left the profession but kept my hand in by acting as a Trade Union appointed Safety Representative and various other things until I took up my present role in which I immediately repeated the diploma. I was able to successfully demonstrate through providing a 2 years retrospective CPD that, whilst my Nat Gen Cert was old and that some things had moved on, I had maintained my knowledge in the light of changing regulation. I was therefore reinstated at the new TechIOSH grade. Good luck with it Martyn
