Hi chris 42
I know getting the diploma will not improve my experience in other sectors but i feel it will put me in a stronger position than I am just now. Even better if I go for CMIOSH trying to cram my exams into this years. I always though health and safety skills were transferable. The thing that gets me its probally happened to alot of us they can see what sector you are experienced in by your CV, never mind one of these things. Even if I wanted to drop back to a general foreman I have been told I am over qualified to much knowledge how can you win.

For all those still looking for that elusive role don't give up. Some of you may have seen some of my posts and realise I have been out of work some time.

I start my new job tomorrow, in a town near me (only 10 miles away). I had been close a number of times, but finally made it.

It had been quite hard at times and I had considered moving completely away from H&S as I didn't want to move location. The new job is not exclusively H&S, but also Environment and QA, however I think this is only to be expected in this day and age.

Good luck to everyone else still looking

Chris

I see good news for you all the effort has paid off. I was lucky to find a new role about 3 weeks ago so was only out of work for just over a week must have been lucky. To anyone still hitting that wall dont give up keep your chin up and hope everything turns out all right for everyone looking for future employment. I am still getting offers for interviews from agencies on a weekly basis so there must be some jobs available out there at the present moment.

Well done Chris.

No news from me, few opportunities, and nothing happening. I've been thinking of giving up my IOSH subs, as I'm struggling to see how I'm benefitting from my membership.

My experience, for what it is worth, made redundant in December 12, 3 months kicking heels, looking at available jobs and being selective on what to apply for, had a few meetings, conversations with agents and employers...took a 3 month contract which from July 1st is a pemanent position.

Go me...

To all those still looking I have had 3 bouts of unemployment since March 2010, in that time I have taken contract roles to keep active, I never gave up looking for H&S jobs and I looked outside the usual job listing areas to make sure I didn't miss any opportunities.

If I can offer some advice/encouragement -
1. pick your agencies, get to know them, when you see a job advert check all the other sites to see how many are listing the job, this is usually a good indicator. What I found from this was that if a job was listed with all and sundry in my experience they were looking for the cheapest option available.

2. Network - on here, Linkedin and any other forums that you can think of, chat to people, many opportunities come via word of mouth rather than an advertisment.

I know I am fortunate to be in a permanent role again, good luck to all of you job seekers.
