There used to be a handy map of the country, but I cannot find it right now.

It is probably Chiltern Branch, http://www.iosh.co.uk/branches/chiltern.aspx

but if I am wrong someone will almost certainly be along soon to correct me!

Jane (East Anglia)

PS you can go to meetings in other Branches - this is expecially useful if your work takes you away from home.

Jane Blunt made an excellent point at the end of #2. As an extension of it, I understand that the majority of meetings of branches, districts and sections within the IOSH network are open and free of charge to all IOSH members irrespective of where they live or work. Also the same applies to IOSH members who wish to bring guests, e.g. managers/colleagues/clients, including from other lines of work, especially if the presentation/s at any meeting are likely to be relevant to them.

Furthermore, I understand that most meetings within the IOSH network may be open to visitors by virtue of IOSH's status as a chartered and charitable body. As my understanding may be incorrect, please can anyone confirm, amend or refute the position about visitors?

It's advisable for anyone, especially newcomers, intending to go to a meeting within the IOSH network to check the details published about it on the IOSH website, including who is elegible to attend. In some cases, e.g. meetings comprising visits away from normal venues, the number of available places may be limited and therefore need to be booked in advance. Also, for some events there may be a charge to cover special costs.

I can confirm that, in East Anglia at least, the great majority of our Branch meetings are free of charge and we welcome visitors/guests.

Numbers are often limited with workshops and site visits, and the former sometimes attract a nominal charge. We always give full details of eligibility and costs, if any, on the event page on our website.

Graham,

quite right, anyone can attend anything, limited by governance matters such as AGM participation. In fact it is encouraged that non members attend as often we limit ourselves to members when we are a charity for the public good. However in answer to your question, when you joined IOSH you would have been assigned to a branch, but as said, just turn up and the ones who interest you or are local. All contact details should be under the networks tabs on the websites.
